Catholic Wedding in Goa: Your Bridal Makeup Checklist

December to February is wedding season in Goa, and for Catholic brides the day is a long one: the church ceremony in the morning or afternoon, photographs outdoors, then a reception that runs late into the night. Your makeup has to look soft and natural in daylight, photograph well under flash, and still be there for the last dance. Here is the checklist we share with our brides.

Two to three months before

• Book your makeup artist early. Popular wedding dates fill up fast in the season, especially Saturdays in December.
• Decide on the look. Most Catholic brides choose a soft, glowing look that suits the white gown and veil. Save a few photos you like, and a few you don't.
• Tell us about your day. The church time, how far the reception is, and whether you will change outfits all affect how we plan your makeup and hair.

Four to six weeks before

• Start a gentle skincare routine and stick to it: cleanse, moisturise and use sunscreen every day. Avoid trying new products or strong treatments close to the wedding.
• Plan your hair. If you want colour or a cut, do it at least two to three weeks before, so it settles in time.
• Book a hair spa or facial a couple of weeks ahead, not the day before.

The week of the wedding

• Drink plenty of water and get as much sleep as you can.
• Get your manicure and pedicure two or three days before, so your hands look good in the ring photos.
• Wash your hair the night before unless we have planned otherwise.

On the day

• Wear a button-down top so you can change into your gown without touching your hair and makeup.
• Leave enough time: rushing is the enemy of good bridal makeup.
• Keep a small touch-up kit with your lipstick, blotting papers and a compact for the reception.
