Hindu Bridal Makeup: How to Prepare for Your Wedding Day
A Hindu wedding is rarely just one day. Between the haldi, mehendi, sangeet, wedding and reception, you may need several different looks, each with its own outfit, jewellery and light. Planning them together is the easiest way to look your best at every function without last-minute stress.
Plan a look for each function
- Haldi and mehendi: light, fresh and easy to wear for a long, relaxed day.
- Sangeet and engagement: a little more glamour, ready for dancing and photos.
- The wedding: rich, defined bridal makeup designed to sit with your traditional jewellery and the colours of your saree or lehenga.
- Reception: often a softer or more modern look to go with a change of outfit.

Get your skin ready
- Start a simple routine four to six weeks before: cleanse, moisturise and protect your skin from the sun every day.
- Avoid trying new products, peels or strong treatments in the last two weeks.
- Book any facial or hair spa a week or two before, never the day before.
Mehendi and timing
Mehendi usually darkens over a day or two, so most brides have it applied one or two days before the wedding. Plan your manicure before the mehendi, and keep your hands away from water for a few hours afterwards.
On the wedding day
- Eat something light before your makeup starts: it is going to be a long day.
- Wear a front-opening top so you can change without disturbing your hair and makeup.
- Keep a small kit for touch-ups between the ceremony and the photos.
