Natural Beauty: Hair Care

Hair Care Tips

Incorporate vitamins and minerals that promote hair growth, strength, and shine. Specific nutrients are involved in producing keratin, the protein that makes up hair. Zinc, copper, manganese, iron, folic acid, vitamin B12, and biotin all play an important role in hair health. Before hitting the health food store to stock up on supplements, try increasing your nutrient intake with whole foods for better hair care

Alternate hot/cold showers, ending with cold. To do this, simply alternate between temperatures in 20 second intervals, for about a minute or so at the end of your shower (extreme temperatures not necessary). Cold water encourages the hair cuticle to seal, thus strengthening the strands. This is especially beneficial after styling with hot tools.

Wash hair less overall. If you’re like most and wash your hair every other day, try for every third or fourth day. To avoid washing, play with different hairstyles; throw hair in a tight bun or tousled braid. Keep in mind it may take a little time for your hair to adjust to less frequent washing but in the end, this means less time in the shower, more money in your wallet, and healthy, lustrous tresses.
